Windows 2003 (32 bit) To 2008 (64 bit)

Hi All,
First timer.
Not a COBOL programmer.
I am basically an Oracle person.
My Question is as below.
We are migrating our database from windows 2003 (32 bit) to windows 2008 (64 bit).
some of programs are calling Micro focus programs (don't even know the difference between micro focus and COBOL sorry about my ignorance).
I am not sure that if we move the 32 bit compiled programs they will work on 64 bit.
Its been a long time we had a COBOL programmer or the programs were modified or compiled.
We called the COBOL Tech guys and the cost is very high even for a basic license.
I am sure someone in this forum has addressed this issue.
What is the best approach, is there a work around, is there a open source that can handle this?

I appreciate any or all advices/Suggestions.

No, Not Yet...
We are currently installing 2008 OS, once that is done we will move all source code, we have C, COBOL and Oracle programs.
I was trying to get information if someone has gone through this issue.
I was reading about NetCOBOL (google), don't know it will work or not.
Someone who is an COBOL guru might answer.

First thing you need to do is to call Microfocus and see if moving the programs from the current machine to the new machine has a cost on the licenses you need. This is dependent on the version of Microfocus Cobol you have, and eventually on the library calls you are making. Newish versions of Microfocus are charged per processor core which can become quite expensive.


Regarding 32/64 bit - just install all your programs on the 64 bit OS, making sure that the 32 bit client software for Oracle is also installed and is the one being used by your programs, and try running the programs.
