I have loaded Windows 2000 Professional into a PC that was using Windows 98. When I boot the PC I get this message "Unable to load Driver Devices \systemroot\system32\drivers\tsistrm.sys driver could not be loaded Error status was Oxc 0000034." Also the USB port no longer is recognized and when I try to restart the PC it will shut down to a blank screen with a blinking cursor but will not reboot. Since I have no files on the machine is there an easy way to just reformat the drive and reload Windows 2000? Is this necessary or is this a problem easier fixed another way?

You can reinstall 2k easily - just boot from the 2k install CD and follow instructions (suggest removing and recreating partition to install into when it asks where you want to install - highlight partitition and hit D to delete - answer warning prompts correctly).

Its hard to tell whether you will have probles after doing this. Was it an upgrade from win 98 (rather than clean install?) - can cause problems - so if that was the case, worth doing a clean install.

Post back if you do this, and still a problem.

You might also want to check the MB manufacturer website for BIOS updates for W2K. I have run in to a few MBs that needed to be flashed to support W2K.

Upgrades have never been that great an option. Doing what wolluf suggested will rule out the OS side of the problem if it was an upgrade from 98SE.

You could also try booting the Windows 2000 Cd and running a repair.
