Windows 2000 will not detect my CD burner

I installed Windows 2000 on a PC and installed a CD burner. Windows does not recognize it. I have checked the connections and it does have power when it first boots but after Windows loads it does not. It is a cheap CyberDrive CW078D 40x12x48. Thanks

I know this is going back to basics sometimes it is easy to overlook. Have you checked the bios to make sure the controller isn't disabled?

Check device manager to see if it's there.

Does it show up during the post?

Actually optical devices like CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives do not require "drivers" to be installed in Windows. Instead, they have firmware built-in. You can still go out to the manufacturer's site and check for an updated firmware version, however.

blutekhnd is on the right track. Make sure the device shows up either at POST or in the BIOS before you troubleshoot it as a Windows problem.

I did check the BIOS and I thought it had the device displayed but it did not. I saw the master was a zip drive that came with the machine and I disconnected it used the master for the Cd burner and it worked. Thanks for your help.
