A point in the right direction please:

I want to setup a VPN using Windows 2000 Server. It already had AD, DNS and the Routing and Remote Access setup before I took over. I want to use PPTP.

First point where I go dumb...when all this is setup, how will users actually connect to the network and be able to work as though they were at their desk? Do I need to setup an Intranet site?

My previous company used Juniper VPN, had an outside IP where you use https, use a secure keychain password generator, then You are at a web page with network access to the internal Intranet. Then, to get to your desktop, they used RealVNC and you had control of your office computer as if you were sitting in front of it.

How can I do a similar thing using Windows 2000 PPTP?

Consider Terminal services through a VPN tunnel. A hardware VPN router, such as a Sonicwall would be the simplest and safest method.

well, the ceo does not want to purchase anymore equipment, its just 5 people plus two remote contractors. And would I have to get licensing to use Terminal Services?

And off the top of my head, no googling yet, does windows 2000 have a remote desktop capability like XP?

Well, for two connection (admin mode) for administrators it is free, no license server or difficult setup needed. Basically, this gives you the ability to administer remotely as if sitting at the console, and it will run many programs not connect to admin work. Get it running, and show the CEO, he might want a Terminal server. Really neat

Windows 2000 is a bit of a challenge. On a few networks I have, all running remote clients through VPN, we need to RDC to a Terminal server then run an RDP client session on the TS desktop to the WK2000 workstations.
