I am in the process of building a new Windows 2003 DC that will Replace a Windows 2000 DC. Do I have to upgrade Windows 2000 DC or can I just transfer the roles to the new Windows 2003 DC? I have already ran adprep and forest prep as I have another Windows 2003 DC Running Exchange. (This is something I enherited. I realize a DC running exchange is not a best practice.) Once the upgrade to Windows 2003 domain level is complete I plan to move the exchange server to a new Windows 2003 Member server.

So my main question is Do I have to upgrade the old 2000 DC or can I transfer the roles? Thanks for your help.

You can transfer the roles.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

Thanks Davetoo...

I was just going to follow this KB article

Are there any settings that I will need to make in Exchange System Manager or should just switching the FSMO roles do the trick?

To bring the domain to a Windows 2003 Functional domain do I need to demote the old Windows 2000 DC after I have moved the roles?

Thanks again
