Windows 2000 Terminal Server, Printing

Hello all,

I just setup a Windows 2000 terminal server and I'm haveing trouble setting up remote printers, I have a windows 98se system that I have a HP laserJet 6 attached to and I have to setup a LPT2 port on this system in order to get my 16 Bit DOS app. to print. I need some help on the NET commands, Any help would be appraited.

Hi Pritch500,

No I'm NOT. I'm useing windows 2000 client to connect to the server. If you need more info. to counting helping me I can give it to you. Thanks for your respons. What I really need help on is the NET commands, I'm sure thats all it is.
When I run the NET USE command, It only shows the DRIVES, I'm sure it would work if I could get the LPT1 port to show here as well, Then I think all I have todo is use the NET SHARE command, followed bye the NET USE LPT1 \\User name\printer? Any more help would be appracited!

This may be a dumb one but have you installed file and print sharing on the 98 machine that you are attempting to remote share off the Terminal server or If when you logon to terminal server and cannot see you local printer on lpt2 you need to go into the persons profile and turn on the settings for terminal server that allow access to the local printers.

net use do a /? this will give you help as well on the commands

I wish it as that easy, But know I've done that all ready
I realy need help on the NET commands, When I run a NET USE command, I need the printer port to show up! And once I get the port to show, I can then run a NET USE LPT1 command
But I can't seem to get the port to show.

I think what you are looking for is the command:

NET USE LPT1: \\MACHINE\SHARENAME

Where Machine is the Name of the machine with the printer to be shared and SHARENAME is the name of the shared printer.

This will map the printer just as you use a similar command to map a drive.

I do not know for certain if this will work / fix your problem in terminal server. It will work on LANs. I am also having problems / learning some of the issues with TS
