Can anyone offer any help with the following hardware:
I am running Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4,
I have a Seagate TapeStor Travan STT20000A 20GB tape drive.
When I boot the PC up the Removeable Storage Manager tells me that the device is un-available, therefore if I remove the drive from Device Manager and reboot the PC, the drive re-appears and works OK. However if I then reboot again the drive becomes un-available.

So each time I reboot the PC it seems to lose the drive, even though it still appears fine under Device Manager.

Has anyone else had this problem?

There could be loads of reasons why this isnt working properley.
Q1. was this machine always win2k, or has it previously had any other OS on and was upgraded?? this would explain why it works if machine is never re-booted.
Q2. is there any firmware available of the seagate site for the drive, as some tape drives do wierd stuff on newer kit anyway>>only update firmware if recommended
Q3. Have you replaced or checked the cable and connectors/SCSI card etc>>usually the first place I'd look.
Q4. have you tried it in a different machine to make sure that the fault isnt with the drive itself??

try some of these...
