Hey everyone!

I just installed a 40 gig hard drive into my machine and formatted the drive using windows setup disk, and finally installed the windows 2000 professional OS. When I was prompted to restart, it takes a long time to boot into window 2000 ...why? The machine is brand new, no issues...

A note of the hardware in you machine would be useful for us to reply. Also, is it standalone, networked etc.

Did the machine run previously with a different drive?

Is there a network connection that's not connected to anything?

It is usually a sign of a non-HCL device, and most commonly any more a USB device.

This is a stand alone pc, athlon 1.8 mhz 512 ddr and connnected to the internet via cable modem. The new hard drive i installed was a maxtor 40 7200 rpm , 40 gig. It has external device attached(usb cd-burner). Iinstalled fine, but it takes so long for windows to load...should I try a low level format using win 98 boot disk?
