I am trying to install W2K on a new AMD Dual processor machine w/ SCSI hard drive. I tried booting from the CD but I got the message: "missing operating system" and then the computer hangs.

I then booted from a Windows 98 floppy and tried installing W2K, but I got a blue screen w/ the following message:

Windows 2000 Setup

An internal setup error has occured.
Could not find a place for a swap file.
Setup cannot continue. Press enter to exit.

What is the problem?

Assuming your CD drive is the 1st boot up drive, then it is possible that the drive is still speeding up and not available for your system to boot from.
If so then try this: Go to BIOS then place your OS disk in drive, let it spin up then exit BIOS.
Make sure your CD drive is the only bootable drive in BIOS.

I just got the cd-rom to boot! I had to disable floppy seek at boot up (even though I had selected the Cd-Rom as the boot drive). Thanks Ma5 for making me check my BIOS settings again.
