Windows 2000 Server remote connections

I am new to Windows 2000 server. I have a small business with only 2 users. We have single-user software on our server and only 1 of us needs to be logged in at the same time. When I am logged in, and the other employee tries to login (using the same username), I would like him to get some sort of error msg. Vice versa if he is logged in and I try to login.

Could this be done? If so, how?

hi,
what do you mean "log in" :

- Have you installed remote desktop (in administration mode)
and you perform a RDP session to the server

or

- You log in in your workstation (using a Domain user)
(have you a domain, is your 2000 server the Domain Controller)

Victory, I apologize for not being clear. Currently I have it setup with the first option. We use "Administrator" to login, because I have been unable to successfully login with another user "qbuser" (for Quickbooks user).

Right now, if the other employee is logged in with Administrator, I can still login. In this case, I just want to receive an error msg saying "this username is already in use" or "Only 1 remote connection allowed at a time" or something to that effect.

We currently have no "domain" .

Windows 2000 Server does not have that option for single login per user Win 2003 does however. Your best option would be to purchase a few Terminal Server licenses abd run in App Mode. This way you can separate user accounts, but keep in mind you can still log in with the same user name multiple times.

How about some use of logon scripts. Would a script possibly help me out on Windows 2000 server?

One that slipped my mind is your using Win 2000 Server so if your pc are running XP Pro or 2000 Pro then all you have to do is enable App Mode and create your user accounts. You won't have to purchase extra licenses. But I guess I should back up a little, are you running a domain and are the PC's joined to it?
