We require our users to use our main web site to access two internal web servers. For some reason this has stopped working. I have worked with Cisco on our PIX firewall we have determined that it is set-up correctly. We are now looking at our DNS server but it appears to functioning correctly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for on the DNS server?

Since you are dealing with an intranet and not shared files, you can use alias records in your dns. If your server is named server1.domain.com and you want your intranet to be then you should have an alias record in dns that points to server1.domain.com in the domain.com zone. You should also have a host record in your dns that gives the ip address to server1.domain.com.

1. Check the host record: ping server1.domain.com
2. Check the website: pull up the browser and put in 3. Check the alias record: put in
In your dns, the records should look something like this:

server1 host 10.0.0.1
www alias server1.domain.lan

The server obviously has and inside and an out side addtess. Lets say that the outside address is 216.99.45.50 and the inside addtess is 192.168.1.9. We have established a domain name for the outside addtess of the web server notesserver1-georgetown.org. When I attempt to enter nomain name of the server in windows 2000 dns box it will not let me put the .org when I attempt to create the record.
