Hi All,

New to the forum, so looking forward to speaking with you. I tried searching this issue, but could not find another thread that duplicated it.

Going back to roughly 3 weeks, our network server began acting strangely, where the screen would flicker everytime we initialized an application. We installed Symantec's small bus AntiVirus and SpyDoctor. An unusually large amount of viruses and adware were returned. The system worked fine for a while until today, when we returned to a frozen screen with over 20 pop up windows.

Upon rebooting, we continually get a blue screen, no login box, no mouse, nothing. We have tried to reboot in last known config and also tried to initialize the recovery software, but when we try the recovery disk, the system boot cycles.

We are running a Dell Poweredge 1400. The system has not been moved, shifted, etc... Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I hate to say this, but considering a whole slew of adware, viruses popped-up, I would not entirely trust the integrity of the OS.
Also the fact that you can't load your recovery partition leading to blue screens might be due to the fact that your disk is corrupted or is almost corrupted.
Try running the Recovery Console to see if you can repair, otherwise if the disk is fine I would recommend a re-installation.

Thanks for your reply,

as a last ditch attempt, I'd like to check the system.ini and win.ini files but cannot use the DOS editor. When I try to copy the file to the A: drive, I keep getting an access denied error. Any thoughts on how I can copy these files out?
