Windows 2000 server authentication

I have some oddness going on when I try to connect to my office server from home using VPN. I have 2 PC at home one running XP Pro SP2, and one running Windows 2000 Server. The XP machine works OK it connects and authenticates with the server at the office. 2000 server however connects OK but fails authentication. As far as I tell the client side is configured the same for both operating systems. Any help is much appreciated
