Most (if not all) of the XP clients on our network are losing their connection to the shared drive on our 2000 server at night.
The server is Small Business Server 2000 (Windows 2000 AD with Exchange 2000 and SQL Server 2000) and has service pack 4 installed. All the XP clients have up to date service packs and get windows updates bi-weekly.
Everyone does DHCP and DNS through a router (except the server which is static and has it's own DNS Server).
The connection to the shared drive is fine all day even if the machine is left idle for 3 or 4 hours and the Windows 2000 clients never lose their connection. Every single morning users complain about having lost their connection to the server share. No one loses their connection to the Exchange server (same box) or the internet.
I don't have anything set on the server to auto disconnect anyone.
I set the autodisconnect time to FFFFFFFF in the registry.
I get no errors on the server when the user tries to connect to the shared drive in the morning.
Net View returns "System Error 5. Access is denied."
When they do a full reboot the problem goes away and they have full access again.
Can anyone tell me why in the world people are losing their access to the shared drive at night? This was not happening with our old server (also SBS 2000).
