Running windows 2000 on a Sony Vaio RS420. I have no programs running and all the processes seem to be normal but it runs at 65% cpu power and the memory is slowly increasing untill there is no more and it needs to reboot. I have ran a virus scan and found nothing. Does anyone know what could be happening here?? Please help.

Thanks
Matt

I encountered the same problems after the Sasser virus. Even after scanning the machines and Symantec deleted some files, I need to run the repair tool to completely eliminate the virus.

Might want to run Spybot and Ad-aware as well. Task Manager doesn't show ANY process diverting CPU time?

I checked for the Sasser virus and everything is all clear. Thanks for the intended help tho! Is there anything else I could check? In the task manager, one cpu is running at almost 100% and the other is at about 15%. Any other ideas?

Thanks alot jthoward! That instantly fixed my problem!!

ohif,
I have a similar problem on a couple of my servers, where the CPU is around 70 - 80%. How did you fix yours? The link above is now unavailable. Thanks!
