Hello -

I hope I am posting in the correct Forum, if not please let me know.

I am trying to troubleshoot a network connectivity issue for a Windows 2000 Pro system connected to a Windows NT domain.

I suspect I have physical problem withthe machine/wiring but I aa not sure. Here is how the problem presents itself:

- User signs on to PC connecting to domain (no problem connecting)
- Performs whatever tasks for whatever amount of time (no problem)
- Opens a shared folder on a file server to open a Word document. Within 2-3 minutes the PC reports that it has gone offline and that the user is now working offline
- After this, Internet connectivity via IE is hit or miss and eventually stops altogether
- User signs off
- At this point connectivity with the domain is lost and the PC must be rebooted to restablish the connection

There are no error messages and the Event logs on the PC and Server both show no issues related to the connectivity drop.

Here's the weird thing and this shoudl have not affect on what is happening. After I changed the Offline File settings to 'Never allow my computer to go offline', the connection appears to be more stable. IE is still hit ot miss with some sites, but the domain connection doesn't seem to drop.

I suspect a physical issue, but I am not sure. I don't have a long enough cable to swap out the current one and I don't have a network testing tool to check the line.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I am also having this same problem. If you find out what it is that is causing this could you email me at rgonz23@aol.com

I had several win 2k machines on our domain that would drop the domain connection and sometimes they would not sign on the domain. It would tell me that no domain server was available. I had to enable/disable the connection several times and eventually it would see the domain. The nics were 3com 3C-905B and the computers were 350mhz amd k62. I upgraded to 2gig computers witht the exact same nics and have had zero problems since. Also the old computers running XP and same nics would not give me any problems, only the 2k machines. I dont know what it was but the faster computers solved it.
