I acquired a Compaq Proliant 800 Model 6/200
-256 Meg Ram
-Adaptec Scsi 2940U - supports Plextor 40Max and Plexwriter 8/20
-Enteral Scsi supports two hard drives - Compaq ST34371W 4G
(C Drive) and Quantum 18G (E Drive)
Boot order set up and A, CD, C

Machine currently has Windows 2000 Prof Beta installed, Ver 5, Build 2167.

I purchased a full version and trying to upgrade or reinstall with no luck.

When trying to upgrade:

Auto detect CD, installation files are copied to hard drive
followed by a must restart message.

Message: A Bootable CD-Rom is detected in your cd-rom drive

"Machine Freezes at this point every time...

I next prepared the four startup diskettes.
Powered off machine. insterted diskette 1
Powered on machine.
Computer goes thru normal startup procedures.
Counts memory
detects Adaptec controller
detects CD-Rom One
detects CD-rom Two
Int 13h Device not found
BIOS not installed
SCSI controller board:
ID0-ST34371W ID8-QM31800TD-SW

F1 to continue
F10 System partition utilities

Select F1

(All is a normal startup to this point)

Setup inspecting hardware config

Disk I/O error: Status 00001010
NTDETECT FAILED.

SYSTEM IS IN A FREEZE STATE AT THIS POINT.

Have done a lot of reading with no suggestions at this time.

Have you created a primary partition on your main hard disk?

No operating system will install unless you do this!

Have a look at this document - very interesting.

You can't upgrade one version of Windows 2000 to another.
