I'm working on this laptop, IBM Think Pad, Celeron 400MHz, 128MB RAM running Windows 2000 Pro. Problem is it takes along time (nearly 5 min) to fully come up. Then takes too long to access or launch any programs. Are either or both processor and RAM not enough to run Windows 2K Pro? Are there any tricks I can use or install to make it run faster?

128 MB is too little... 2000 should have 256 - 384+ if you plan on installing things like modern antivirus and anti-spam, as well as Internet Explorer. You can't really upgrade old laptop CPUs, but RAM will make a difference - not so much in bootup, but in responding quicker while working AFTER bootup.

Also, defrag the drive. And consider getting a new laptop -- or a used one on ebay.

also replacing the hard drive with a 7200 rpm (if possible) drive over a 5400 rpm drive will make a drastic difference.
