Hardware description: Dell Optiplex GX1 PII 400MHz

I installed win2K and it doesn't recognize the modem.
I managed to find my modem drivers off the dell site.

3Com Controller-based v.90 Modem PCI modem

It installs successfully it says but modem test fails. (modem not found)

Device manager tells me it has an unknown PCI device and I deleted that, uninstalled the modem and reinstalled.. still no luck

I deleted both unknown PCI device and modem, rebooted
.. and now win2K tells me there's an unknown PCI device found but when i try to install the driver to it.. it wont recognize.

I could use help here please *sigh*

When it finds the unknown PCI device choose reinstall drivers.Point it to the modem drivers. It will then not only get rid of the unknown PCI device but will suddenly by itself find a modem and install it properly.

One of the most useful sites on the Internet for me is I use it often. I did a search there based on the information you offered, and there were ... well ... lots of drivers. I suggest, if you haven't already, go there, register (it's free) and hunt through there. (Note: the page with all the 3Com drivers is long and wide. It's going to take some time to get it all downloaded so be patient.) I hope this helps.
