I am having a issue with Windows 2000 server and routing and remote access. The server is a DC running as a DHCP server and firewall(utilizing Black Ice server edition). The server contains two NIC's and I will refer to them as "WAN" and "LAN"

The WAN is connected to a CISCO 1700 series router. With the following infomation...

Windows 2000 IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : dc1
Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : imagemediadomain.com
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : imagemediadomain.com

Ethernet adapter LAN:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139(A) PCI Fast Ethernet
Adapter #2
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-08-54-00-BA-C0
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Ethernet adapter WAN:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139(A) PCI Fast Ethernet
Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-08-54-00-D3-2A
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 66.238.249.35
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.240
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 66.238.249.33
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 209.155.184.72
206.173.119.72
everything works fine until I start the roting and remote access services then the server can no longer get to the internet. Obviously I want the clients on LAN side behind the firewall I was wondering If anyone can give me a step by step solution Into this.

One problem you have is the LAN adapter should not have a Default Gateway. Make sure NAT is set up and add a static route to 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 gateway WAN interface on your LAN interface.

Not sure of any good links....

Coming from a Programming background could you be more specific? The concept eludes me.

thanks,

Go into the Adapter properties of the LAN adapter and delete the gateway.
In RRAS, set up NAT. Here is a step-by-step, In the RRAS snap-in, under admin tools, expand down to Static routes. Right-click and choose Add new. Then add it as described above....

Thanks,
