I am trying to load W2K professional onto a brand new system. after it formats the HDD and installs the setup files on the the dirve, it then wants to reboot. After it reboots, It goes through the progress bar at the bottom of the screen like normal, and then just goes to a blank screen with the cursor flashing in the top left corner. Nothing else happens after that point.

Ive tried installing win98 thinking that might do something different but had no luck. it did the exact same thing.

Video problem? (i ask because at the point it is stopping is where it should diskplay the windows graphic logo.)

This normally means the boot sector is missing/or damaged. Bit strange that it has occured after a reinstall.

1. Is virus protection in bios disabled?
2. Is the system formatted to NTFS or FAT32?
3. If FAT32 can you boot of a floppy and access the harddrive?
4. What harddrive/motherboard etc have are you using?

Ash.

Check after you formatted that you set the Hard drive as the Active drive.. I have done that before...
