Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping someone can assist with this problem. Over the weekend users complained that they could not connected to shared folders on out network servers. On checking the servers I discovered that the Server Service had been stopped. I restarted the services and everything seemed to be fine. However I also noted that a Windows NT server that I had been running began to experience problems and when I tried to reinstall or join the domain. The error "Domain not found or Domain cannot be located is received. This Server can ping the Domain etc, but can't join. Since then a number of new issues have arisen

1. Windows 2000 users cannot change their passwords Error:'The system cannot change your password because the Domain <computername> is not available .

2. Windows 95/98 users cannot logon Error: The Domain password you supplied is incorrect. Access to your logon server has been denied.

3. I Cannot add any new computers to the domain. Error Domain not available.
Users also report the following errors keep popping up onscreen: cmd.exe Application error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) Click on OK to terminate the application. and Generic Host Process for Wins32 Services Encountered a problem....

I've looked at DNS and WINS and Active Dir toward figuring out the Domain issue and I can't see anything wrong as typing an incorrect password, will lock out the user account. I can add computer accounts and change passwords in active directory. I've scanned both AD Servers for Viruses and found nothing. I've found that the Admin Shares on both Servers have been removed and I can't seem to restore them. This is all very confusing and now I have no idea where to look again. I'm really hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance

Hi I've sorted out the problem, seems that there was Malware running on the servers that closed the Default shares. Removing the malware made it possible to re-create the shares. Problem solved.

Glad you found it. That was my thought but really wasn't completely sure. So didn't stick my two cents in.
