I'm haviing a little prpoblem with Windows 2000 NTBackups, I have a IBM server thats only six months old and the tape bakup device is form seagate, Windows 2000 was able to detech the drivers and install the device without any complications. When I use the scheduled NT backups with the same media in the backup device it will work without any problems, but if I decide to change medias to rotate the media for longer storage it will start to crash and tell me "No usable media found" or something close to that. I am quite aware that I have to goto RSM to have the media recognize it before use.
I have also read the Microsoft Q articles and installed their latest Service Packs, installed another service that will get RSM to poll the backup device for new medias, but all to no avail. I have kept hitting brick walls one after another, I feel as if I'm spinning my wheels and getting nowhere fast. Can anyone out there please help me, I really don't think I'm alone after reading some of the problems this forum Q's and A's.
)

Yeah windows 2000 backup is bad - I have the same problem at one of my sites - I havent fixed it yet BUT I was told that the quickest way is to format all of your tapes with the same name

(Or format and reinstall NT4 with the oh-so nice OLD NTBackup!!!)

Thanks

Dave

I used tapes of the same name as David suggested. The RSM has to be used every time you change the tape. IT is also important that the status of the tape is Free, unalocated, available. If it is in Backup, unalocated, available it will not work.
