Windows 2000 Backup Error When backing up to "File" on a Network Share 1

I am running Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Active Directory. I am trying to use the Windows 2000 Backup to backup the system state to a "file" NOT a DLT. This works fine until I try to schedule it for a backup to a network drive. When I do, the report shows the following.

Backup Status
The operation was not performed because the specified media cannot be found.

However, if I do not perform a schedule and "backup now" it works fine. I am using the ADMIN account to launch this job.

Thanks

I have almost the same problem. When backing up to the shared network folder, the backup usually hangs. Instead, I now backup to a local file, then copy that file to the network folder using a batch file. Of course, this is only a temporary solution, until I find a solution to use the share directly. However, I scheduled about 30 jobs to run the batch files (consisting of the backup string copied from the backup program and a move statement), but they simply don't work. When launching the batch files manually all works fine, but when using the schedules, the batch files only work when running the jobs 2 times (even when I remove the BKF file between 2 runs). The backup itself always works, but the move is (almost) never executed. It's my opinion that there is something wrong with Win2K backup and scheduling, but so far I haven't found a solution yet. I'll keep you informed as soon as I get some news about this...

************UPDATE**************

I have found two ways to over come what seems like a "BUG" in Windows 2000 Backup.

1. Write a Batch file that will map the "shared" drive.

Ex. net use z: \\anyserver\anyshare Exit

Schedule this batch file to run at "the same time" as your backup. This will map the drive and then the backup will function.

OR

2. Instead of mapping a drive, when you create your backup job, do not point the job to a "map". Instead, drill down "MY Network Places, Entire Network, ETC" until you have found the server and folder you wish to back the info up to. This prevents the backup program from needing a "mapped" connect.

I have tried both and they work. :)
