Will SideKick run under Windows 2000?
I have been trying to install SK98 and earlier versions of this program for some time now only to have the InstallShield fail at 99% each time.
Installs have been attempted while logged on as the administrator and I have even reinstalled Win2000 Pro completely.
Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Dear rapserv,
See faq807-2246
Which has a solution to the situation where an error message
comes up with:

"This installation had detected that a previous installation or un-installation requires that you restart your computer"

Even if the error message doesn't come up and the install program stops when the installation is nearly complete then use the suggestions noted.
There are links also to other threads that describe similar situations too.

My original post was sent while trying to work out why SK98 would not install onto one of my clients Win2000 PC's.
As mentioned, the install would not complete and would stop at 99%. I discovered some time later that when trying to install a couple of other programs that they were doing the same and my concerns were confirmed when I logged onto Trend for an on-line virus scan. Downloading of their temp files I found that they would not install either but would go through the process and fail at the end.
Looking at the list of processes running showed nothing abnormal but I did find in the Startup programs under System Tools -System Configuration an instruction to 'Run= ravmond.exe'. This file appears when the PC is infected with the Lovgate virus. (My client had Norton Antivirus on his PC with a current dat sig and for some reason it did not detect it.) I downloaded 2 small Lovgate removal tools from the net and after running them found that the infection had been removed.
I again tried the SK98 install and it installed immediately, along with a couple of the other programs I was also trying to install.
I have noticed a couple of other queries on this group in relation to the same/similar difficulty and would suggest that these people have a quick check for a similar cause.

PS. I did a reinstall of Norton along with a current dat sig and Norton did find the infection but could not clean it.

Dear rapserv,
If you feel like it, could you post the essentials of what you have just said as a FAQ.
Especially for the same reason as the one you remark on in your post and I quote:
I have noticed a couple of other queries on this group in relation to the same/similar difficulty and would suggest that these people have a quick check for a similar cause.
If you call it something obvious like:
Sidekick win2000 InstallShield fail at 99%
and put it in the group called:
Sidekick98/99 and WinXP or a new Group called:
Sidekick98/99 and Win2000

Then it will be a really great addition to the FAQs.

Subsequently if you (or anyone else) want(s) to direct people to the FAQ as an answer, you can just copy the FAQ number in your post and it will become a link to that FAQ.
as in:
All the Starfish FAQs1
faq807-2966
Thanks for posting the answer
