Hey everybody,

I currently have a Dell machine running Win2K (upgraded from NT) and I need to do a clean install. Problem is that I have a two hard-drive stripe set, and Windows2000 doesn't seem to have the full range of ability in it's disk manager that it used to have. That is, I can't figure out how to save the stripeset info, so when I reinstall Win2K, I won't have to format the two drives and stripe them together, losing all my precious data in the process. Any thoughts?

Tell you the truth, I don't know if this will work. But you will need to make these disk dynamic disks for starters. This should convert the volume set to the new dynamic volume. This will create a metadata store of the volume set at the end of the disk and this metadata will be replicated at the end of each dynamic disk. This should preserve the volume set over the clean installation, note the word should. What you may see are unknown volumes and the normal disk partitions.

Again, I have never done this. I am currently running dynamic disks on my home machine, but did not upgrade this system from a previous volume set. There should be enough info here on dynamic disks to get you started on the path to a solution. At least you have some keywords to search on. I do firmly believe this process must be well documented on Technet or in the Knowledge Base.

Good luck,

Mike
