I have a DC in a win2k domain which needs to be removed from the domain (old server xxx01)and replaced with a new server with the same name. This server is also running SQL 2k. I need to know which order this should be done in and if/what potential problems i may face.

I am aware that i may have to delete the server (xxx01) from the Active Directory Schema. But i want to know if there will be any problems when i recreate the new server with the old name?

Your thoughts please...

First run dcpromo from the command prompt to demote the bad machine to a stand alone server. You may want to rename the old one to oldserver, so when you bring up the new server with the old name, there won't be any problems. The SIDS will be different, but there shouldn't be a problem.
