sometimes when I start up tomcat via dos prompt, I get a second dos window where it shows all the processes and then stops at last line where it says that it is up and running, and sometimes whe start it up I get the same windows but it just run all the processes very fast and the goes away.

what is it doing this?

thanks

It so happens because the tomcat gets a JVMBindException, and hence could not start; meaning that Tomcat was not shutdown appropriately, ie. giving it enuf time to release the sockets and other resources. Or may be, some other process is using the port number which u have designate to Tomcat.

Try capturing the output of the window by marking just when u think the window will close, and u wud be able to appreciate the error, more narrowly.
