Window start up

i have windows 2000 professional...
when i start my computer...
it starts up until it go to the desk top..
all my files or taks bars are disappeared
however i only can see the wall paper..
but nothing else...
i can't not do anything
because i dont' see anything.. or i can't click on anything..
(no files or tak bars)
do you have any idea what my problem is??
is it because i have some kind of virus??
plz help me~!!!

I doubt that your files have disappeared. if your haveing problems with your desktop try this:

Click the Right mouse button on the blank desktop and goto active desktop.

When there, click on "show web contents" and "show desktop icons".

if that doesn't work go into display settings in control panel and take the check off "show web contents".


if that doesn't work try giving your self another user profile and export your files from the old one. login as an administrator and rename your folder in "documents and settings".

You will need to edit ur registry, the explorer shell has been removed from startup. Once you login press ctrl alt delete. Goto task manager File > New Task > Regedit locate this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon look for a string called shell and make sure Explorer.exe is set as the value for it
