While developing my program I made the window sizes exactly what they needed to be on my computer. Now the first time I installed it on someone elses computer the windows were all wrong. The funny thing is, he was running the same resolution as I am. The windows themselves are just shrunk to a certain size and they can be streched to look close to right...but even then there is one that even if I maximize it, it still wont all fit on the screen...but it fits on mine just fine.

Any suggestions at all?

Sounds like either your screen or the other is incorrectly positioned at the hardware level. (See buttons on the front panel of the monitor.) Create a test app and set the form to the size you expect by setting the properties (not with the mouse) and see what happens. E.g., set Left and Top to 0, Set Width to 640 (or 800 or 1024), and set Height to 480 (or 600 or 768)

Then adjust the monitor display until the form appears where it should.

Has the other user changed the screen font? I've seen this type of thing occur when an app is developed with default fonts and the user has the default set to large fonts.

I tried to make a test app...I set the size of the form to 1024x768 just like my screen and his screen. Mine looked fine...but his is wrong again. The thing is, his screen is adjusted properly, just the app wont fit on the screen...it creates scroll bars to view the whole form. The forms in the program I want to install aren't full screen, in fact one is very small but it still wont fit into the window created for it.

Thank you for your help, and please don't hesitate to try again:)

could it be the taskbar visibility ? (Wild guess)

- Large fonts setting?
- Different system font?
- Themes?
- Double height taskbar?, like on my system ;-)
- As fruNNik suggested: auto-hide on/off on taskbar?
- Always on top on/off for taskbar?

The taskbar is set normally. I'm going to be checking to fonts, but the whole window is off size like the buttons are bigger and nothing at all fits...it just seems twice as big as on my computer. The only difference is he's running Windows '98 and I'm running 2000, but should that make a difference?

Follow up on TonHu's suggestions. Check the "Appearance" tab of the "Display Properties" to compare size settings for the various items. The other computer may have settings that cause more real estate to be used up on the screen.

The lesson to be learned here is never use all of the space on your screen when designing forms because you never know what a clever user will do to his or her system.

Wow...I'm a moron. I actually turned out to be large fonts after all. I had just failed to restart his computer after switching to small fonts...I feel so dumb.

Thank you all for your help. Sorry to have wasted your time.
