I have 2 WIN7 machines, but on one machine, when I have multiple windows open, the window on top that I ma trying to view keeps going to the back (at random times) - seems perhaps due to a certain movement of the mouse. Very annoying.

Yeah, it sounds like perhaps one of the applications is buggy. There is a setting in many applications for "always on top" - so I'd check into the applications that are typically open when this happens, and see if any of them have such a setting. Are the programs involved "typical" or common or popular programs, or are they items that wouldn't be used by many folks? Are any of them games or any sort of graphics-intensive applications? Sometimes that can cause a lag that looks like windows aren't moving/acting the way you'd like? Are you having any performance issues? Has this been your only issue?

It is usually windows of Excel, PDF's, and search windows for example - no games.

This computer doesn't crash, it is fast (almost new), but recently it started to switch from left-hand mouse to right-hand mouse every time it was restarted.

I had only MS AV but just installed Kaspersky. There were no malwares detected in the first full scan.

Another example:

Whenever I am in MS Outlook, and there is a file to Save As, the Save As window appears for 1 millisecond, then goes in back of the Outlook window.

Try different keyboard and mouse. Just a crazy hunch.

Yeah, sounds like a GOOD crazy hunch. [wink]

I hate this mouse. Good idea.

I can't live without my dasKeyboard, so that stays.

Also, the problem does not occur every time. Intermittent.

Swap it out anyway (temporarily just to test!!!! Troubleshooting doesn't respect stubbornness.

Still no luck - could it be a Win7 new feature? I typically ignore new "window" functions, I find them trivial.

Just a ‘shot in the dark’ here…
Do your Windows ‘go back’ because the Window that gets the focus is the one that your mouse is pointing to?

Ease of Access Center in the Control Panel

If one goes to the Ease of Access Center in the Control panel and selects “Make the mouse easier to use”, there is an option labeled “Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse.” If this option is selected, an FFM-like [Focus Follows Mouse ] use is enabled.

Quote from here

If you don’t realize you have this option chosen, it would appear ‘at random times’ depending where your mouse is pointing at the time when that happens.

Have fun.

Andy,

That seemed to be it. That option WAS selected.

Thanks

WOW! Now I should play some lottery :)

You may want to leave it on now that you know how it works.

No, I didn't like it at all. It was just one more irritation - I get so busy with different windows open, I don't think it makes sense for me, personally.

In fact, I totally ignore most of the "Windows" improvements in Win7 - I don't need them. Conversely, I like Win7 a lot - the way the start menu is set, etc.

I think the whole concept of "Aero" is nonsense, my desktop is black, and I don't like the transparency options either.
