Can anyone help and tell me what is the use of the following file in Windows 98 SE

C:\windows\system\mm32dll?

How many versions of mm32dll are available?
How can I extract this file from the Window98 SE CD-Rom disc?

Best Regards,

Why do you need that, your current version should be compatible with whatever version of windows you are running, I would not recomend replacing it, that is just your multimedia control for the system. It's a 32bit multimedia library file. It contains all sorts of stuff relating to version, location, and type of multimedia players/recorders you have installed.
To extract a new one from the CD, go to Start > Run > and type in SFC.
Select "extract one file", browse to it (should be in the c:\windows\system folder) and get it off the CD.
If you have any troubles, repeat the process, but this time, get the backup (you did make a backup when it asked you to?) and replace it. No harm done.
