window 98 clashes and doesn't know harddrive

hi! and thank you in advance.
my PC with 98 clashes due to hard drive failure, i think.
i scanned the drive but doesn't recognize the hard drive.
can you guys give me a few ideas what might went on here?
does it mean the i need a new hard drive?
i don't have any data stored on the hard-drive ..don't need
any data....
just need to find out if i can salvage the harddrive or
i need to order a new drive.

go to the manufacture of your hd and download the diagnostic tool for it, and run the test, if it gives you any error
check your warranty, if it is not too old, get it replace

Bit more info please. Does the PC boot into win98? Are we talking one drive (its not second drive?). If it boots, what problems are you having. If it doesn't boot, is drive recognised by the bios?

Hello there . thanks for your thanks in advance . can you please tell me what is the exact error message you are facing ,Well you can try one thing
open ur cpu and try to resit the cables of ur ide drives and you can also try to change ur hard drive cables with ur cd rom cables.
try this and if u find any error message let me know.
