I am running a dell studio 1558 with windows7 computer will not boot.

Upon start up it goes to startup repair checking your system for problems.

Startup repair cannot repair computer automatically.

booted from repair disk same problem I get an error code 0X4001100200001012.

Googled this many others have the same problem but no answers.

Tried system restore form safe mode did not correct problem.

at command prompt ran chkdsk windows checked file system and found no problems.

Ran windows memory diagnostic no problem.

All help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Looking at the Google links seems to indicate a problem with Dell machines.

Do you get the same error if you create a repair disk on another Windows 7 machine and try to boot from that in order to run the Startup Repair?

If you type "Create a system repair disc" in the main Help and Support program's Search Box you will get all the details.

Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs

Yep, it's a Dell problem, that has been going on for years...

the above link has a solution, maybe, see the post from M and S replied on 29 Oct 2010 6:05 PM (the very last post)...

Thanks for the suggestions

Ben: I can not boot the computer and the repair disk that I made when it was new will not allow me to do a system recovery.

Linney: Thanks I will give that a try.

Dr Bob: I located the site but could you give me directions to how to download the Boot CD 14.0. I assume the you are referring to the Low Level formatter 1.1? I can not find a download link.

Thanks

KH, ignore the link from DrBob... instead go to and download that ISO, it has all the tools as well...

sorry to hear that you can't boot into Windows...

unless you know someone who also has a DELL (with W7 above HOME version) where you could create another repair CD, I would almost say that you are heading towards a FRESH/CLEAN install...

in that case the UBCD should also have several partitioning tools (or even the SeaTools) that would allow you to remove all the partitions prior to a fresh install of Windows 7...

Apologies to the OP, the site I gave u was to all the features in the boot cd, and not to start a war because I love UBCD as well, this has more features to tinker with

go to the middle of the page and download the .zip

After much work apparently it was a problem with the hard drive. It would not do a reset to factory. So I got a new hard drive.

Thanks for the help to all.
