Hi

I am thinking about getting a wireless LAN set-up at home using Lynksys broadband router/switch, but have a security concern regarding Microsoft File & Print Services.

I know that I should be able to lock down DHCP handouts to only known MAC addresses, but should I still be concerned about shared folders on the WLAN?

If the solution to this is to use permissions based sharing in NTFS, does that imply that Win9x should not be used in the WLAN.

What do you guys think

You can also enable WEP. With both WEP and MAC filtering you should be reasonably secure.

Then add password protection to the shares.

All of this can be done with Win98.
