Hi to you all !!
The log-in Password function in Win98Sec.edition as well as WinMe are non-functional, rendering the computer and all files accessible to anyone by just pressing the ESCAPE button. I received help to remedy this problem on my WinMe computer, by changing the BIOS settings (a Compaq laptop). Using the same method on my Desktop Packard Bell - Win98sec.ed., I have been unable to fix this problem. I shall appreciate any assistance, so that my computer and files are no longer accessible to others.
Thank you for your assistance. Regards Jaoglobal

The reply above covers this very well, but keep in mind that win98 is not a secure operating system at all. Anyone with a little DOS knowledge can simply pop in a boot disk, start up and have access to all your files, copy, delete, or whatever. You could disable the floppy if it's not needed, and set a bios password so it can't be re-enabled without removing the battery and reseting the password. And at least you would be able to tell if someone had done this as the password would be gone or different. someone could also boot from a cd, but you should be able to control this from the bios as well.
hope this helps.

Every Windows version from 1.0 to 98se was designed to be a used by a SINGLE USER. Never was intended, nor touted to be, a multi-user environment. BUT, most versions had the ability to become part of larger multi-user environment thus giving the users the feeling that Windows was multi-user.

As rockerfellerz notes, Windows 98 and below have huge security holes and should never be considered as the basis for a secure computing environment. For that matter, most all Windows OS's are that way! Keeps Microsoft's programmer's employeed building security patches! There's always a better way...
