Hi
Have an old laptop running win98se also have a USB 2 PCMCIA Card that I bought second hand, I have downloaded the driver for it NEC and I load it but when the computer reboots it puts back the standard one the Texas 1130 cardbus driver which will not work with this card. Has anybody any ideas how I can do it, tried copying the driver to the root dir and a few other things but it allways comes back to the 1130 driver.
Many Thanks

Reboot in safe mode without the card and uninstall it completely. Reboot again, install the drivers then insert the card.

Maybe this card needs a later version of controller to work though...

Andy.

You could try updating the cardbus drivers for your Extensa 650 first...and running Windows update; there are various patches....

Failing that see the Usbman site; have details of your chipset to hand.

Hi Satrow
Well it looks like it may be the Bios as when I looked in devise manager it does not say any USB host controller but this maybe cause I dont have a usb port.Have got all the info perhaps you could advise.
Bios Date: 10/04/96
Super I/O: NSC 388rev 1 found at port 2Eh
Chipset: ALiM 1521 rev 28
OS: M.W.98se Ver 4.10.2222A
CPU Type: P54C
Speed: 132Mhz
Bios Rom: Memory 31mb
Any info you could offer would be appreciated

Find these files in C:\WINDOWS\inf (hidden folder);
Pcmcia.inf - Rename to Pcmcia.old
Test it out again

Also then - Pcmciamf.inf - .old too

If no good - then rename them both back to .inf

Search the web and Laptop manu. site for BIOS updates
Get WIn98SE updates
Have you successfully used any PCMCIA on that laptop before?
What brand laptop?
