I'm running Win98 se on a tosh notebook - at office it connects to a win2k sbs server and has no problems with internet through LAN (ADSL connected).
When I start up and log in ex-LAN and use dial-up, connection happens ok - log on and verify etc. but IE6 bombs out saying cannot find server or DNS error.
Run winipcfg and see three PPP adapters, the second of which looks like the ISP IP details. I can see a DNS server IP and I have been assigned an IP which is the same as the default gateway. If I ping me it's ok, but if I ping the ISP/DNS server or anywhere else outside, I time out.
Interestingly the host name in the ipcfg window is my compter id for LAN networking in the form my_pc.domain.co.uk rather than anything to do with the isp?
Anyway, confused....any ideas?
