HI!

I've got an older laptop with Win98 that I'm trying to get onto the internet through a wireless router.

The Wireless NIC is a D-Link DWL-122 USB and the router is Linksys Wireless G.

I can successfully ping the router from the laptop, and the D-link utility shows that the connection exists and is strong. "ipconfig /all" shows that the DHCP has successfully delivered an IP. Everything seems to be running perfectly and no other computers in the office have any problems.

The problem is I can't get on to the Internet with this particular laptop. It's the only one in the office with Win98 so I suspect that's the source of the problem. I just can't figure out how to fix it. Winsockfix didn't work either.

Thanx for any help

Me Again!

I've just discovered another interesting symtom:

I can ping the router from the win98 laptop

I can't ping any other computer on the network

and

No other computer can ping the win98 laptop

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem and removing every network service, device and protocol from the Network Properties box fixed the problem. I restarted the laptop, and of course, it had the WNIC, the protocol and service.. and tried again, and worked.

Only that, in my situation, even when the WNIC utility showed I was connected, when I do WINIPCFG, only PPP adapter came up no matter what. So I did what I said above, and everything worked after!!

Hope this helps.

Problem solved!

I deleted the bridge along with the tcp/ip then re-did the setup from scratch and everything worked.

I don't know where the bridge came from in the first place but it appears that it was the source of the problem.

Thanx
