Win98 - thumbnail view won't work 2

Hi there, I have tried all combinations of View as Web Page, Thumbnail view but I never get the little thumbnail of the GIF to the left underneath the folder name. All I get are thumbnails of the windows explorer graphic where the files are listed. I hope this is making sense.

In other words, am I the only one who can't get thumbnail view to work or does someone know how to help me?

Thanks, I tried this but it still didn't work. I still get thumbnails of the GIF ICONS but not thumbnails of the picture inside the GIF. Too weird.

Actually, I have more info now. I can get the thumbnail preview to work on JPEG files but not GIF or JPG. Is this something broken in the registry that I can fix??

I found the answer - I don't believe it, after all this time searching. Whew!

To be honest I don't use the built-in facilities, I use the Coffee Cup free viewer which gives previews and a bunch more integrated into Explorer. See for yourself

BTW if JPEG's work but JPG's don't, since they are the same file type, it suggests another program may have hijacked the relevant file associations.

Try Power Desk Explorer. Not only a much better file manager, but it includes a viewer/player for most file types so you can see what they really look like.
And it's free.

thanks for asking this question and giving the answer. i didn't think it important enough to ask, but it's such a pain when you're use to having it work on your work computer, then go home and it doesn't work... it's really cool feature that keeps you from having to open and close programs just to get a quick view of a picture.
