Win98 SE network issues

When my win98 SE machine boots up, an error alert box pops up saying that "an error occurred while loading protocol 0. Error 59 occurred."

Also, the hourglass cursor appears quite frequently.

I have not added/removed any hardware or software. All I did was shut down my machine the night before when it was connected to our house network just fine.

Any helpful ideas?

This error occurs if there are:

. Multiple protocols assigned; and/or,
. a DNS server assignment that fails; and/or
. Multiple computer names that are identical; and/or
. Multiple DHCP servers.


Try the utility discussed in FAQ faq779-4625

If not help from a Winsock service repair, do the tedious but possibly helpfull rebuilding of your DUN and TCP/IP services:
