When i go to shut my pc down it totally ignores me and restarts as if i pressed restart.

Please I have to unplug the thing every day !

Hi,

Ahh the old win98 shutdown chestnut!!! :)

If you check out my faq on this forum it should help, if not let me know. I have spent hours looking at this issue.

If you're using Win98, run: msconfig. Under General tab, press Advanced button. Make sure the Disable Fast Shutdown is ticked.
Press Ok to close Advanced option and Ok again to close msconfig, then restart.
After restart, shutdown your computer and see if it works.

You shouldn't have to unplug your computer in any case. Computers that have automated power management features usually have a push button type power switch. If you press and hold it for (typically) five seconds, the computer will power off.

If you still have the problem, powering off the computer this way isn't a solution, and you'll still have the problem of Scandisk running when you start it up again. But pulling the plug carries a small risk of damaging your hard disks or other spinning media drives, so you should avoid it if possible. Rick Sprague
