Here's a good question about outdated software and new machines:

Environment: Novell 4.11 server, Pervasive SQL v7, Progression 7.5.103d.

Workstation 1) Windows 98, 500 MHz Pentium III

Workstation 2) Windoes XP Pro, 3.8GHz, brand new machine.

Why or how could a Macola window open 3 to 4 times faster in the Windows 98 machine versus the Windows XP Pro machine?

The only thing I have told the client (other than to upgade) is to switch the ports on the 2 workstations to take the network out of the equation.

Any input appreciated.

The following environments are no longer supported:

"Environment: Novell 4.11 server, Pervasive SQL v7, Progression 7.5.103d."

So, you'll want to upgrade, particularly since P.SQL 7 has known performance issues on Windows XP workstations.

I realize they are no longer supported. I have been trying to get these people to upgrade for years.

Do you have any details on the known Pervasive 7 Windows XP issues?

It's the requesters.

P.SQL 2000 sp3 introduced updated Win32 requesters that have better compliancy with Windows XP.

Thanks for th info. How much do you wanna bet they STILL won't upgrade?

You will also find different success rates with various novell clients, 4.8 was better than 4.9, but some service packs for 4.9 have helped. I have also seen differences in using the microsoft client for netware with xp & differences using legact progression versus pwe on some xp workstations on novell networks. There doesn't seem to be a science, just trial & error.
