when I select to shut down my computer..... it doesn't shut down. I get the "windows 98 is shutting down" screen and it just hangs...... [sig][/sig]

Yeah, this is pretty common.

One workaround is to place a shortcut to RUNDLL.EXE on your desktop.

RUNDLL.EXE is located:
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE

Once you have the shortcut on your desktop, right click it, choose Properties, and type "user.exe,exitwindows." in the Target text box. (without the quotations)

The Target text will then look like this:
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE user.exe,exitwindows.

Then just double click the new shortcut to shutdown.

Yep that will work,

Also a good idea to

START / RUN / MSCONFIG

Select the startup tab, and untick both "Load Power Profiles", then reboot. [sig][/sig]

The quick short term fix is to download the patch from Microsoft. This lasts for sometime before you change the Registry again.

The program file is 4756us8.exe which loads the Q239887 Update. Just go to MS Download Section and point to Win 98 updates. [sig]
Steven Walker
strider@paradise.net.nz

Brainbench MVP Computer Technician[/sig]
