My AT form factor motherboard failed and I decided to bite the bullet and replace the case and the motherboard with ATX form factor.
All of the componants from the AT case were installed into the ATX case and the power turned on.
The componants are;
1. Intel Pentium III 550 Mhz
2. 3/64 meg SDRAM
3. 2.1 gig drive c:
4. 1.2 gig drive d:
5. 3.5 floppy
6. 5.25 floppy
7. Seagate Travan tape backup
8. Plextor CD-RW
9. 56K Modem
10. Sound Blaster sound card
11. Diamond Stealth II G460 Video Card

Unfortunately, Win98 SE does not like this change, and after a few mintutes into the boot process, issues the Blue Screen of Death.

The new motherboard is a Soyo SY-6BA+ IV and the BIOS is an Award ver. 4.51PG.

I have tried just about everything (Deleted the Enum key from HKey_Local_Machine, booting from an emergency disk, booting into Safe Mode), but nothing gets me past this Blue Screen.

Any assistance would be extremely helpful.

thanks

try booting to safe mode (with Win98, hold the shift key down after the memory count)... if it boots to the desktop in safe mode, right click on My Computer, and choose properties... go to the device manager tab, and remove all the devices you can... reboot, and the machine should boot, and detect all the new devices... mind you, your registry will be bloated... i would then recommend regclean...

if it will not boot to safe mode, you may want to back up your data, and reload clean... Shane
and now for the impressive abbreviations:
DOA, SOL, AWOL, PEBKAC, id10t, FUBAR

Reload Win98. Sounds like a cop out, but it may be your only option left. It appears that when you put the HDD into the new ATX system the ACPI functions in windows (or lack of) are causing it to fail. Reinstalling Win98 OVER the top of the current config should fix this. Another thing you could try that may or may not work is to disable powermanagement in the BIOS.

Hope this helps.

No need to reload Windows.
Boot to safe mode, open regedit, and delete this key completely: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum
Restart, and have the windows CD handy to reinstall devices.
Most drivers and such will install with no troubles, but if you can't find a specific install file, they're ALL in c:\windows\system and c:\windows\inf or sub folders of those two. Cheers,
Jim
