I am running WIN98 on a Gateway and have a secondary HD installed. Everything is fine in BIOS...drivers are there and working. The problem is that when I turn the power on and the computer boots, Windows does not recognize my secondary HD. If I reboot (warm), Windows now recognizes the HD and everything works fine until I power off. Then, when I turn the computer on, Windows again does not recognize the secondary HD until I do a "warm" reboot. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Is it after a warm reboot that you had to manually enter the info in the BIOS? Or. Does it boot w/o the HD then immediately do a warm reboot, then it shows up? How old is the Machine? Bios flash from Gateway? Sounds like BIOS issue. TigerFlight [tiger]

The primary and secondary HDs are present in the BIOS regardless. The problem is that Windows does not recognize the secondary HD (in this case, D:) as being present until I reboot without powering off. If I turn the power off and then back on, Windows does not recognize the D: drive. That's when I have to reboot without turning the power off...either Ctrl/Alt/Del or using Window's "Shutdown/Restart" menu. THEN it recognizes the D: drive, and everything is hunky-dory. Thanks for your response.

Do you use TweakUI? TigerFlight [tiger]

Turn Off the puter. Turn it back on. No HD, right. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL. Then click Explorer. Hit end Task. A new window pops up withh the log off. HIT CANCEL. Windows will refresh. Now check if HD is there. Get back to me. TigerFlight [tiger]

Sorry, but the drive is also missing from Control Panel/System/Device Manager. Perhaps the driver is not loading...but why only from a cold boot? Tis a puzzlement!

Go into BIOS and disable Fast Boot/Quick Boot. The computer speed may be too fast to recognise the HDD during POST (Power On Self Test). This happened to me when I changed HDD.

Thankyou Bountybar! Your suggestion seems to have solved the problem.
