I have an end user who has a dial-up network connection that goes directly to the 'dialing' window bypassing the 'connect to' window where username and password and phone number are asked for.

I created a new connection for him from scratch thinking that the 'save password' box might have been checked thus bypassing the opportunity to enter a password. When shortcut to connection is invoked it is still going directly to the point where it is dialing without offering an opportunity to enter a password.

This is a 98 box. If you create a new connection in Dialup NWing is the default not such that you would be prompted for a password at least once?

Try removing Dial-up Networking from the windows setup tab under Add/Remove Programs. Hit OK and reboot. Go back to the setup tab and readd it, then reboot. This should resolve your problem...

elviajero,

backup the registry and/or export the following keys:

Go to Start>Run, type regedit. The keys are similar to Windows Explorer folders. Doubl-click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, scroll down until you get to Software, double-click Software, scroll to Microsoft, double-click Microsoft, scroll to OLE, click the OLE key. Highlight EnableRemoteConnect in the right-hand pane, (if it has a Y), right-click choose modify, and type N

Or check this:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersionInternet Settings
if you see an entry named EnableAutodial and it has a value of 01,00,00,00
Right-click on EnableAutodial, choose modify and type in 00 00 00 00.
