It all started with a dang virus. I had to restore a system backup that I had made in case of stuff like this.
Anyway, the restore went fine, but when I loaded Windows (Win98se) it 'found' all my hardware as if it had never been installed. The problem is, it can't seem to find my video card (geforce4 mx440). I removed all the video drivers (I even inspected the registry to make sure there was no residue) and loaded the standard vga driver. After the reboot, I added the video adapter in 'add new devices' and changed the display properties for the nvidia adapter.
When I do that, it says "are you sure? these drivers were not written for your hardware .. yada yada"
After the reboot it won't go.
I have tried removing the card totally from the machine, rebooting, shutdown and putting the card back in to force the recognition in the ESCD. Didn't work.
I am stumped. It used to work fine.
Any insight would be appreciated
