win95 sr2 problem with 1.2G Tbird

I have just installed win95 sr2 on a Soltek MB with a 1.2GTbird proc. The install went fine - almost, but the system failed on its final reboot. There was a protected mode error in the IOS module. I have tried replacing everything with other h/w to eliminate h/w as the source of the prob (including the MB). The only way to stop the error was to reduce the external clock speed. I then installed Win98 over 95 and everything is fine!

Any ideas what might have been the problem?

AMD has problems with Win95B if you go over 350MHz. You need their patch. It's on their site.
