This one is driving me crazy - it has to be an easy one, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

[Win95 version B & C]
When you hit START, and the menu pulls up, how do you add the "Log off" option to that menu - rather than having it under the Start, Shutdown, Close all programs and log on as a different user.

Thank you in advance ~

I think it is a function of IE4 or later and enabling Active Desktop / Show Web content on desktop.

I am very sure if you go controlpanel->network -> Under configuration you should have Client for Microsoft Networks. I am very sure this will creat the logoff button. You can also try controlpanel->users->and make a new user and logon.. should work also

good luck B-)

Thanks for the suggestions - here's the update:

First, looked at dxd suggestions. The PC is running IE 5.x (Win95C). Under Desktop Properites, I noticed I didn't have the "WEB" tab next to Background, Screen Savers, etc.... Other PCs have this "WEB" tab (which has the active Desktop option). I also couldn't find the Options to turn this feature on.

With another cup of coffee, and a face of determination, I looked at ackka's suggestion. Under control panel, I do not have the "USERS" icon (yet all my other PCs do).

I removed and re-added the MS Client. Still no LOGOFF option in the start menu. I'm downloading IE 5.5 and see if that may add something that I'm missing.

Thanks again ~

I am pretty sure it is related to IE. I did a search in Technet and found a couple of articles regarding "What's new with IE4" and it indicated the logoff option was moved to the Start Menu.

I am also pretty sure you need to have the desktop update component installed for this to work as well.

Active Desktop is a component of only IE 4. You need to remove IE 5 and install IE 4 with active desktop, then enable the active desktop and install IE 5 on top[ of it. Or just install Windows 98, which has active desktop included. [sig]
John D. Saucier
jsauce@netadvances.com
[/sig]

Go to network properties and change the option of PRIMARY NETWORK LOGIN. That should allow you to see a logoff option.
